In 2003/2004, Prince Edward Island Rotary Clubs collectively raised $150,000, one half of the budget required for the Upper Room Soup Kitchen building on Richmond Street in Charlottetown.
At the time, the Rotary Club of Stratford was just over a year old and did not have the same financial reserves as some of the more established clubs.
The Rotary Club of Stratford has partnered with Farmers Helping Farmers for three years. Each year, with FHF's guidance, the club will select a project for support. Year one has seen the club contribute to a bio-fuel project in Kenya. Thanks to FHF's expertise, they have been able to secure matching grants for this money from the Canadian International Development Agency, making our contribution even more effective
The Stratford Rotary Club is pleased to partner with the Town Of Stratford to produce the Town Maps.
The Map has space for 36 business card size ads. The business community has supported this venture and the club is very appreciative of their support. Al Cornor (Chair) and his committee have done a great job, and the club uses the proceeds to fund many worthwhile projects in the local community.
Our annual mulch sale is our largest fundraiser of the year. Each May we hold two separate sales, one in Stratford in the Bunbury Mall parking lot and one in Charlottetown in the Charlottetown Mall parking lot. Every member chips in and we enlist the help of the local Youth Can Do organization to help with the effort.
Several years ago as a public service, the Rotary Club of Stratford took over running the Trivia Night for Strtatford Winter Carnival. It was a fun treat for everyone as Trivia Master Bruce Moore kept everyone guessing all night long. The "Old Tories" aka the "Victorious Tories" were victorious again.
Stratford Rotarians volunteered their time to drive the residents of Andrews of Stratford around to look at the Christmas lights around Stratford and Charlottetown. After the drive, a social time at the lodge was enjoyed by everyone. The residents were certainly very appreciative. It allowed them to get out and also gave them something to look forward to. It was a great experience for all involved.
Camp Gencheff is a Rotary-supported facility in the Bellevue Cove area of Stratford for children, adolescents and young adults with special needs. The Camp was originally begun in 1960 and is the only facility on Prince Edward Island with the necessary facilities and staff to accommodate the needs of its campers. In 1992, Camp Gencheff became the major beneficiary of Rotary's 75th Anniversary on PEI with the construction of a new $75,000 main building. The Rotary Club of Stratford is proud to be a contributor to Camp Gencheff and the care and operation of the facility.
