The Rotary Club of Stratford has partnered with Farmers Helping Farmers for three years. Each year, with FHF's guidance, the club will select a project for support. Year one has seen the club contribute to a bio-fuel project in Kenya. Thanks to FHF's expertise, they have been able to secure matching grants for this money from the Canadian International Development Agency, making our contribution even more effective
It is the club's hope that this three-year arrangement will turn into a long-term partnership with a very successful Prince Edward Island-based volunteer organization. A little about Farmers Helping Farmers: Farmers Helping Farmers is a nationally recognized, award-winning organization of community-minded people with an agricultural background from Prince Edward Island, Canada. Our goal is to assist Kenyan farmers in becoming more self-reliant in agricultural food production. Together, we develop small-scale, practical agricultural projects, focusing on direct, person-to-person interaction, with little or no government structure. Members of Farmers Helping Farmers volunteer their time to coordinate projects and help raise the necessary funds. Most projects that are undertaken are partnered with the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA). They financially support the projects by contributing two dollars for every dollar raised (from www.farmershelpingfarmers.ca)
